Ann McLane Kuster is an attorney, public policy advocate and former member of Congress, serving New Hampshire’s Second District for six terms from 2013 - 2025.
During her tenure in the U.S House, Kuster established herself as a results-oriented, pragmatic lawmaker willing to work across the aisle to get things done. This reputation earned her the support of her colleagues in 2022 when she was elected to serve as Chair of the New Democrat Coalition. As Chair, she led a 100-member Coalition of moderate House Democrats through the tumultuous 118th Congress, playing a leading role in negotiations with Republicans and Biden Administration officials on the debt ceiling and government shutdown. She also worked alongside House Democratic leadership and pragmatic Republicans to help pass the National Defense Authorization Act led bipartisan discussions on immigration reform, clean energy expansion and AI policy.
While in Congress, Kuster served on the influential Energy & Commerce Committee, House Committee on Agriculture and House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Representing New Hampshire, she also took a leading role in the substance use crisis, working across the aisle to establish the Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force. Kuster herself is also a survivor of sexual assault and in 2017 founded the Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence to ensure survivors have a voice in Washington, DC.
Kuster graduated from Dartmouth College in 1978 as part of the College’s third class that included women students, and from Georgetown University Law Center in 1984.
She lives with her husband Brad, an environmental lawyer, near Hopkinton, New Hampshire where they raised their two sons, Zach and Travis.
