19th Annual New Hampshire Caregiver’s Conference

Wednesday, November 7, 2025

Ann McLane Kuster is an attorney, public policy advocate and former member of Congress, serving New Hampshire’s Second District for six terms from 2013 - 2025.

During her tenure in the U.S House, Kuster established herself as a results-oriented, pragmatic lawmaker willing to work across the aisle to get things done.  This reputation earned her the support of her colleagues in 2022 when she was elected to serve as Chair of the New Democrat Coalition.  As Chair, she led a 100-member Coalition of moderate House Democrats through the tumultuous 118th Congress, playing a leading role in negotiations with Republicans and Biden Administration officials on the debt ceiling and government shutdown.  She also worked alongside House Democratic leadership and pragmatic Republicans to help pass the National Defense Authorization Act led bipartisan discussions on immigration reform, clean energy expansion and AI policy.

While in Congress, Kuster served on the influential Energy & Commerce Committee, House Committee on Agriculture and House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Committee.  Representing New Hampshire, she also took a leading role in the substance use crisis, working across the aisle to establish the Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force.  Kuster herself is also a survivor of sexual assault and in 2017 founded the Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence to ensure survivors have a voice in Washington, DC.

Kuster graduated from Dartmouth College in 1978 as part of the College’s third class that included women students, and from Georgetown University Law Center in 1984.

She lives with her husband Brad, an environmental lawyer, near Hopkinton, New Hampshire where they raised their two sons, Zach and Travis.

What the Coalition of Caring is All About.

The coalition was created in October of 2006.  Its mission is to promote and strengthen the well being of caregivers who provide care for a disabled or ill child, adult or senior.  This Coalition is comprised of organizations that support the elderly, children with disabilities, adults with disabilities, hospice patients and the chronically ill.  It is our intention to continue to invite interested organizations to our committee as we continue our community outreach.

Caregivers comprise an often forgotten and underserved population of individuals who provide millions of dollars worth of unpaid direct care and support.  Due to the constant demands of their caregiving role, they often have little time, energy or resources to take a stand or take care of themselves.   Therefore our initiative will bring to the forefront of the community and the state the unrecognized value of these people who perform the task of caring.  The coalition realizes that these “invisible” people are not easily noticed or detected; they are inconspicuous due to their responsibilities as caregivers; they often lack support, and have a very real need to feel valued.

If we don’t take care of the caregiver, then who will take care of the person in need at home when the caregiver can no longer fill that role?

The goals of the Coalition for the conference are to:

  1. Provide caregivers with practical skills that can be used in daily in caregiving responsibilities.
  2. Provide current information on supportive services and resources.
  3. Offer the opportunity for emotional support and recognition of  family and unpaid caregiver.
  4. Raise community awareness and outreach on caregiving issues
